Fallout 3 Meets Civilization Beyond Earth
By DJ Lee
Wow, with a cast of SciFi All Time Favorites and fresh new faces, Ascension hits a home run of the hopes and dreams of the 1960s. I hope future episodes work toward them successfully completing the mission! Colonizing other planets is the goal of the human race, terraforming new worlds with life brings us closer to our own creators. Seeding humans throughout the Galaxy should be the goal of NASA and all space programs! MASTERS OF SPACE: some day on distant worlds, children will wonder if the stories of their people coming from a different planet are true ? ONE STAR TO syfy FOR CANCELLING EVERY SHOW THAT HAS ANY PROMISE OF TURNING A PROFIT. DEAR SYFY: PLEASE SELL YOUR CANCELLED SHOWS TO NETFLIX SO THE ACTORS CAN CONTINUE TO EARN A LIVING AND THE FANS CAN LOVE THEIR WORK !!!
It was alright
It was alright
It started with great ideas. However, due to poor editing and make it up as you go story line this project died a painful death.
FYI: This is the COMPLETE series
Just to avoid confusion, this is the complete series. It was initially conceived as a 6-episode miniseries, but it was shown on TV as 3-episode miniseries (each episode being 2 hours).
Some websites still list it as having 6 episodes of 1 hour each, which creates the confusion that iTunes doesn’t have the entire series.
I really liked the series. It does end in a cliffhanger (because the producers were hoping to create a multiple-season series, which didn’t happen) but I still recommend it.
Great Taste, But Just a Taste
Ascension has a really interesting premise, with several great twists and drama. It has beautiful cinematography and, generally, good acting. I love the premise of a generation ship/interstellar ark and the show really delivered on that side. There was also a VERY good tie-in to modern Earth life that I really enjoyed.
However, as a mini-series, the show has a disappointing story arc. The end of the series leaves you hanging; so much so, I expected there to be a follow up series of some type. However, SyFy has refused to pick up the story for a second season. (And yes, this is the complete series - it aired as 6 episodes but is sold in three, which I think works better narratively).
If you buy in, you will have a really great time. But, will end disappointed that three episodes is all you will ever get.
Wait! I need to go to space!
This was an great mini-series by Syfy. I’m not sure why Syfy has decided to cancel the show after one season but I hope it gets picked up by another network. It’s true, the twist in the last 10 minutes caught my attention and got my imagination going. I think it would benefit from a more diverse cast but the main characters are needed. It just leaves you wanting more and more...
Another iTunes Disappointment
I started watching this and found it to be extremely intriguing, and enjoyable, BUT. Like "Defying Gravity", they sold a "season" and delevered a few episodes then it fell off the planet. Not worth the price paid. In the future, I won't be prepaying for a season show, only to get taken to the cleaners by iTunes or the producers of the show, I'll only buy when the series is complete and I get to know what I'm buying.
When are the rest of the episodes coming?
If this ends after episode 3 than this is the worst show ever
What an interesting concept, that has been... Oh Hell!
Great concept! Great set design! Great actors! But what in the hell were they thinking? I feel totally duped, lied to, and cheated. Apple - I PAID for this! It is not a series, it was a series a year or two back on a cable network. I can't even get mad at a great tv show being cancelled AGAIN after a promising start. Because the second season was canceled before I ever heard of it. The talk of there being three more shows yet to air in this season? LOL! It was initially aired as two episodes per night. What we see here is the combined distilled version two episodes in one or each episode was originally two. Then we find out that the big hook... Was let loose early on. They aren't in space, they're just in pretend space on a backlot at NASA. It's all a hoax. And this time the hoax is on us. We've all been duped! Color me miffed, and lost in space too.
I tried to watch this, I really did, but I only made it about a half hour in. From a sociological standpoint, this should be burned. A society, even one as small and isolated as this one, should not be this stagnent. Especially when they would still have regular contact with earth, even with the increasing lag time. From a physics standpoint it makes me cry. Acceleration and an orion drive do not work that way, and for 51 years. Ever heard of a light hugger? After 51 years at even 0.5g you would no longer be higging, you would be looking for orifices, and that ship looks to be going closer to 1g, without any rotation sections to supply pseudo-gravity. From a systems standpoint the designer was a moron. Oh yeah, lets put an algea vat right next to a beach, no one will mind the smell in an enclosed space. On a purely subjective basis, they managed to mangle one of my favorite songs.
I didn't finish watching it, but my best friend did waste the time, and told me about the ending 'twist'. It's a worse cop-out that Rowling, and I refuse to admit the existance of her ending most of the time.
