I think this is "Lonesome Dove" meets "Dallas" at the beginning of the 20th century with backstory of the young Eli and the Comanche. The writing is great and so was the book the show is based on.

Turned it off ten minutes in. OK, I get it guys.. Wonderful Mexicans and liberal son against bigoted patriarch. I'll take my sermons from another source. Thanks anyway.

I've only watched the first episode, but found it highly compelling. There is a high degree of verisimilitude in this series, and solid writing on display. I don't get the fuss about Brosnan's Texas accent. He is shown as being the child of a European immigrant - so of course his accent isn't going to sound stereotypically Texan. Most real Texan's accents don't sound stereotypically Texan. There is regional variation, etc. So all the East Coast media types moaning about Brosnan's accent are betraying their one-dimensional knowledge of the state, something this series tries to explode. Highly recommended.

I'm ready to see the return of Pierce to TV. Great story based on a great book. strong characters, beautiful backdrop and universal challenges still applicable in today's fraught political landscape. can't wait!!
