When a father, Luis Salazar, travels illegally from Mexico into the United States to search for his missing son, he discovers that modern servitude is thriving in the farmlands and agricultural communities. Required to pay for their own food and other essentials, what little money they make is paid back to their employers, and because they will forever be in debt, they can never leave.

I have been volunteering with anti-trafficking groups for the past few years. I have not seen a more accurate 'fictional' depiction of this issue than I saw in the first episode of season three of American Crime. Finally, someone got it right -- in all its awful truth, they got it right on every level. UPDATED: Okay, now that the whole show has aired...there is a glaring issue that crops up at the end of the show: Timothy Hutton's storyline is a *disaster*. It's not accurate, it's terribly written and feels like it was thrown to the end of the season at the last minute. The rest of the show is excellent 99.9% of the time, but this one storyline is such a problem that I have to knock off two stars.

The acting in this show is incredible... it really draws you into each character's personal story. You're hooked by the first episode!
