Barack Obama launched into our national consciousness at the 2004 Democratic National Convention and ever since, he's delivered messages of patriotism, unity, and hope through the power of words. But of all the speeches he's given, six in particular may ultimately define him as one of the greatest writers and orators the White House has ever known. Interviews with eminent historians and accounts from key figures in his writing process provide rare insights into these iconic speeches, as well as the Obama presidency and the man himself.

Listening to the parts of President Obama's speeches in this documentary, I started tearing up again. An elegance of man we will not see for a long time. Thank you POTUS44.

Nothing but promises, nothing but words.

This guy is a complete joke. He lied to and mislead a mass of innocent people and I'm writing this review AGAIN because it was deleted by Apple and I know why. Apple has turned very shady over these past years and is siding with the enemy. Same with Smithsonian. It should've been titled, The Power of Lies. Where's Obama now? Hiding; like the coward he truly is.

  • Seriously ?!?

After dropping 100,000 tons of bombs on human beings, and plunging our country into even worse tyranny than Bush, after killing over 500,000 people in the middle east, you are seriously promoting a biased piece of propaganda for this criminal? Shame on you, Apple! And stay out of politics!
  • The power of words written for him

    By MiniMickeyman
He didn;t write anything he said. He was simply a man that was so deluded he never realized he was so far over his head he made Bush look competent. No President lied more than Obama.
  • I wanted to be a "great writer" and...

All you have to do to be a "great writer" is say "And" 100's of times.
  • Powerful Linguist

Obama was a powerful orator, and through this Smithsonian documentary we go in depth in to some of his more popular speeches. He was a wonderful speaker and cared about what he said. For those hesitant due to the review, please remember you can write iTunes reviews for items you do not purchase, so I do recommend this as a in-depth look at one of history's greatest presidents if your interested in Presidential history.

Thank you! Well done and coming at a time when we need to once again be inspired. We need to turn off twitter and most news shows and watch this each day to remind us that there once was a leader who knew the true power of words. Thank you.
  • Superb writing

    By J. Michael L
This documentary is about the act and the art of writing. We’ve had a couple of presidents who were writers. Most let someone else do that work. This is a superb documentary about the obligations of writing when history dictates the moments and the meaning. Some may decide to watch because of their politics. Others might see it as an opportunity to see behind the scenes at a Writer in Chief. Acknowledging that Obama was a polarizing figure, this nonetheless is a fascinating look at the obligations of speaking to a nation.
