Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.

  • Entertaining but Lacking Originality in Dialogue

Working within the Industry building prop's n costumes gives me a different perspective on films. To much of the dialogue was a spin off of the TNT series Will. This film doesn't have the sly humor n character quirks that show delivers. I loved the armor but again, historically, Vortigern's family crest is a White Dragon, so the black felt like a cheap attempt to point out the villain. The armor spanned 500AD-1500's so there was a lot of variation. Also, the introduction of Mordred prior to Arthur's birth felt wrong to me. He was Arthur's son and a Druid, causing Arthur's eventual death as Christianity and Goddess worship fought each other throughout the British Isles. The sword play and weapons were awesome. The bladesmith that produced Excalibur created a beautiful blade. The most visually stunning effect was the underwater Lady of the Lake sequence. I would have liked more of those moments in the film. Overall I enjoyed it but I wouldn't buy it. It's not something I would watch over again.
  • Wow! Don't listen to the critics!

Just finished watching the movie with my two teenage sons and had a blast. Seriously upset that I let movie critics influence me into not seeing the movie when it originally released. The movie is awesome with a great soundtrack.
  • Weak Story/Constant flashbacks

    By Abram23
This movie was done in a sense where there is constance flashbacks again and again. Idk what the director was thinking. The story is weak and the movie can be dull through most parts. The constant flashbacks takes away from the focus of the story and the acting is cheesy and hard to watch at times.

A movie built around a truth as old as mankind. If someone doesn't stand up and fight evil, then that is all it takes for an evil king to come to power. Nobility is the central theme and it is entertaining to watch the protagonist's journey towards accepting it within himself. Even if you don't believe in the Arthurian legends, the screen play is well written, acted and directed. The production values are high. The mise en scène is earthy tones with magical effects done right. A gritty superhero version of Arthur that has not been done before.

    Great Entertainment!
  • Good vs. Evil. What more could you want?

It's King Arthur with a Lord if the Rings effects flair and Oceans 11 mission planing/editing. If you like quality special effects on a grand scale, Evil Kings who deserve to die and Old English countryside/buildings/settings it's fun to watch. The soundtrack is as unique as the concept. The acting is solid accept for Arthur...not horrible, just not what I expected (the main actor from Pacific Rim.)
  • boring

it seems after 1st Holmes Ritchie has lost his talents. The movie is boring, full of computer graphics, actors read the script instead of playing. Also there are all those typical Ritchie's hackneyed dialogs made of pieces, related to different time periods of the story, known since Lock, Stock,... Besides that there is that Apple's idiotic requirement to activate the movie via internet before starting to play. But what if i downloaded it and wanted to watch it during the flight?! Well you cant, its obligatory to activated it. Thanks god i could connect to airport 's wifi. My first and last rent from apple. I will use 3rd party players that play the content when I want, how I want, with or without internet and that dont consider me as a thief.
